Coronavirus – BHLL Update

Dear BHLL Families,

I hope each of you is healthy and staying safe.  We are living in unprecedented times with significant uncertainty because of Covid-19.  Despite our strong interest in playing ball again, the BHLL Board of Directors decided unanimously to cancel the 2020 Spring baseball season for all divisions because of the ongoing pandemic.  Our priority remains the health and safety of our players, families, coaches, umpires, and community.  This priority must take precedence over our desire to resume baseball, especially when it appears that Los Ángeles County will extend the “stay at home” orders.

Please note National Little League has cancelled all 2020 regional and international tournaments.  Each local chapter is permitted to determine when to resume baseball activities. BHLL is focused on possibly resuming baseball activities in the fall if safe.  To that end, we are developing safety protocols in consultation with health officials and district wide safety directors. Our current 12-year olds who would otherwise be ineligible for Fall Ball in 2020 will be permitted to play this fall (age limit rules will be relaxed for other divisions).  If any sister leagues near Beverly Hills resume baseball this summer BHLL kids would be allowed to register in those neighboring leagues as a one-time exception to the rule that you must play in your local league (as of this date no other league has yet made an affirmative decision to play this summer).

As for refunds, BHLL is a non-profit volunteer-run organization that is fully dependent on fund-raising and league enrollment dues.  A partial refund will be available for the 2020 Spring season, if requested. Please note most of our expenses are incurred at the beginning of the season to purchase uniforms and equipment, secure field space, pay insurance and charter fees, sponsor coach clinics, etc. Many of these expenses are non-recoupable which is why only partial refunds are available.  Credits towards future league dues at BHLL or another league is not an option because difficult to document and process.  Any families that donate their refund will help fund future league general operations, activities and supplies (including sanitizing materials we will need to purchase in bulk for upcoming seasons). We will send another email regarding requesting refunds once we have closed the books on the 2020 Spring season.  Please be patient because it may take some time to do the final accounting to determine the refund available (we are waiting for final invoice from the City and seeking to recoup some other expenses).

We will communicate during the Summer about the status of Fall Ball.  We all look forward to the day when we can see you and your children again on the baseball diamond. In the interim please stay safe and let’s do our part to crush this virus.

All my best,

Raul Perez

President, BHLL
